What we had thought (hoped?) was an infection in Max's gums turned out to be the cancer spreading at a ferocious rate so, sadly, the vet agreed with us. Hubby and I stayed with him until the end, just patting him and loving him.
I'm sure you can imagine how sad our little house in the hills is tonight but we're also remembering lots of fun times as well as the funny things that Max did and we're managing to have a gentle laugh too. Thank you for your kind thoughts and words here, in the emails and on facebook. They really do help.

RIP Max. I'm so sorry to hear that he has gone. He obviously meant so much to you and your family :)
I came across your blog from another blog and have been reading for a little while now. This is very sad news so to you and your family, my sincere condolences. He sounds much loved.
Thinking of you xx
So sorry for you all, and especially for Max. I'm sure he knew how much he was loved.
I sat with my good canine mate till the end too... a good friend of mine is a mobile vet and she - well she was gold - sensitive and caring the whole way through.
It broke my heart Mandi - I cried like I hadn't cried in a long long time...
She now sit's under a tree in the front of the house and every now and then - I have a yarn with her.
She was a good mate and I miss her still - so I can understand where you and your family are right now.
My thoughts are with you eh - I hope he's got a nice warm, comfy place to lie now mate...
So sorry to hear it went so fast!
Thanks to you all, your kind words mean so much. xx
